Hi, the constructor here.
Most crosword clue-answer pairs are outlandish and are not material to retain.
But it is common to come across a genuinely interesting nugget of information.
Say a new word to add to your vocabulary or the capital of a country.
A more interesting example is "I've seen this clue before. When was it?"
Or even "am I hallucating the fact that I think I've seen this clue?"
This site can help you reconcile with this feeling!
I did this on 2026-07-17 when I saw the clue "Heavens"
Initially, I had come across this neat repo and used it to send clues to an Anki flaschard deck.
This was fun for like 2 days until I forgot to keep doing it. It also only searches by date, so I could really only use it on the day-of.
In my disciplined world, what I really want to do is practice my crosswordese.
Crosswordese are basically commonly used clues or answers. The NYT has a particular flavor of crosswordese.
It's an effective strategy to study them because they aren't all that fun to learn, but they show up almost every week.
It's not fun when you forget a foreign gasoline company or a japanese alcohol beverage.

I can realistically see 3 ways to use this site
1. to recall interesting facts!
2. study crosswordese for example: "give me all the clues that correspond to OREO" which in turn also tells you how many times OREO has been used in the last year.
These conform to flashcards very well!3. finding patterns! the crosswords have a hidden culture embedded in them.
How many times is the token "cookie" used in a clue. Of these clues, is OREO a common answer?
Can you believe that TAPIRS is used more than ELEPHANTS? Wait wtf even is a TAPIR?

That's all! Have fun!
